holiday hiatus

Wearing: Top, jeans, shoes & ring: F21 | Necklace: gift from mom

Sorry for the cruddy pictures, but this was what I wore on Christmas Day to dinner. The shirt was a gift from one of my sisters and was the perfect top to wear to hide the food belly after stuffing myself with a turkey that was cooked to absolute perfection, mashed potatoes and gravy, cheesecake and pecan tarts.

And I've been MIA during this month due to excessive eating and hanging with my favourite people. Below is a recap of the things that are making their way through my digestive tract:

Top left to bottom right:

1. Tomato bruschetta prepared by a girlfriend during an Xmas potluck get together.
2. Tiramisu for dessert from Argo's Cafe
3. BBQ duck spring rolls at Crime Lab. Freakin delicious.
4. Veggie Burger at Crime Lab; goat's cheese, tofu & mushroom patty on a fresh ciabatta bun with cucumber, tomato, avocado, lettuce & aioli served with yam fries. This is easily one of the best veggie burgers I've ever had.
5. All you can eat sushi and Korean BBQ at Shabusen on Granville. Yes, this was for a table of five. Yes, we also failed at consuming most of what was on that table .
6. Drinks at The Marquis; gin & tonic and tequila shots for our good friend Shy's birthday.
7. This picture does not do the turkey justice, but it was what I could manage after the family devoured the turkey in mere minutes. The white meat was so tender I swear it melted in my mouth. My cousin's husband is an amazing chef!
8. Biggest and most colourful jello shots I've ever seen or consumed. An Xmas getogether with a few of my volleyball mates.

Needless to say, I have put on a couple of happy pounds. I am happy, but my NYE dress probably not so much.

Hope everyone had an amazing holiday so far. Tomorrow's New Years Eve!

one for you, two for me

Helloo holidays! After finishing my last exam (miserably I might add) on Monday, I could not wait to finish my last bit of Christmas shopping. The next day, I hopped into my friend's car and we took off to do some shopping over the border. My original intent was to buy for others, but of course we all know how this story ends. Refer to pics/damage below:

Embarrassingly, all for me.
Garb from F21: Leather shorts, leggings, necklace, falsies
Just thought this was pretty:)
Damn you Nine West. Just as I think I'm done shoe purchases for the year, you come up with these spectacular glitter peeptoes.
Seriously, there were three colours: I ended up with the black and silver. Still thinking about the gold ones..
My boarding gear is complete! Welcome ThirtyTwo's Exus Smu's and new Anon Optics.
Aside from the boots being white and pink and match my board (heehee), check out the plush lining! So soft that it feels like you rubbed your face into a puppy or cat. And no, I didn't rub my face in these. At the store.
Nike running gloves. Motivation attempt.
Finally found my live-in plaid shirt at Abercrombie! And the grey baseball tee from the Men's section was on sale for $18. Will work as great pajamas.
Okay, so in my defense, there were awesome sales. And yes, I did purchase a bunch of stuff for others! ;) I am happy to say that my shopping is complete and I can now kick back with my 2:1 ratio of alcohol filled egg nog.

Not pictured: my sad wallet. Thank you America: although I will probably not eat for the next 6 months, my closet will be happy.

I hope all of you found amazing gifts and enjoying the holidays with the people you love :)

girl of the week on thestylespy.com

Finals, schminals. Who cares when thestylespy.com chooses you to be their Girl of the Week:)

Ever since I discovered the magic of the fashion blogging world, thestylespy.com has been one of my go-to reads. It's the one stop shop where you can get great style advice, beauty tips, insider secrets, and what's happening in and around the city.
You can imagine my excitement when Nicole (who by the way, also has her own inspiring blog, le mode du jour) asked me to be featured as their Girl of the Week. I remember squealing, asking her if she was serious, then didn't know what to do with myself (probably had a huge dumb grin on my face), but I managed to say yes.
For someone like me, who's just started her own blog, this was an incredible honour. And I feel so, so lucky.

Check out the interview here where I discuss things from my beauty must-haves to wardrobe staples to what's on my x-mas wish list.*cough*

Thank you so much to the lovely ladies at thestylespy for supporting me and please keep doing what you're doing because you all are amazing.

Happy Friday loves!

hello world

Contrary to rumours (No just kidding. I am not popular enough to have people spread rumours about me. Yay and also sad face.), I am still alive. Finals are fast approaching, therefore there have been short, sweet and nonexistent posts until exams are all done. And believe me, I am counting down the hours. I miss you all and will be back shortly!

In the meantime, a few more pics from weheartit :)

images from weheartit.com
Instead of the usual weekend recap, I thought I'd post some pictures I fell in love with over the weekend. When you have time, check out http://weheartit.com, a collection of inspiring pictures and videos others submit. I stumbled upon this site when I was visiting a fellow blogger. The images will make beautiful wallpapers on your laptop, phone, and when you want to feel warm and fuzzy all over and your bathrobe just won't do. I am sure I will be making multiple posts of pictures like these.

Speaking of things that are beautiful, I'd like to thank all my readers and those who are following me:) I know the journey has just begun, but your support and love make my days just that much more brighter. Thanks so much.

Hope you loves had a great weekend.

things won't ever be the same

If I were a boy, I would probably wear something like this. Or..if I was Alexis Bledel, which this look was inspired from:

Image from peoplestylewatch.com
I loved the simplicity of this outfit so much that while I originally decided to wear a scarf to add some punch, I opted out and thought it just looked better with a plain shirt at the end. Simple v-neck t-shirt from Men's Hanes and Ms. Bledel: you win this time.

natural born ninjas

A casual outfit I wore out for a night of drinks and singing tunes. What else would you wear if you were going to break out in song and dance complete with a cartwheel? I didn't do one, but if I had to, I would've been ready. Oh for sure.

This outfit was neutral and understated but I'm a believer that it's all in the details; the shimmer in the shirt, the grommets and woven detail on the hobo bag, a pair of sleek boots, and my new favourite ring from F21 gifted to me by my sister, made this look slightly more than ordinary.

Wearing: Leather jacket: Zara | Sparkly shirt, matte leggings, accessories: F21 | Scarf & tank: unknown | Hobo bag: Aldo | Boots: Alfani | Nails: OPI's Lincoln Park after Midnight

On another note, wow my hair looks horrendous. It's been dry, tangly and so flat that I've resorted to tying it up like I'm ready to go to bed (refer to above pic).
So good thing I had an appointment with my stylist yesterday. I finally took the plunge and got a cut I've been contemplating about for several months now! I am such a chicken!
Now without further a due, please meet the 15-year old version of me:
.
.
.

I got bangs! I know..it's not like I hacked off 8 inches or dyed it ruby red, but my hair is my security blanket and changing it scares the shit out of me. I'm sure that's why it took me ages to finally do it. I even backed out while in the salon and opted to just do side swept bangs. Big heavy side ones though! I reasoned. But my stylist and friend whom I've known for years, simply said no, we're doing it today. That's all the convincing I needed. And to make it as dramatic as possible, he took a chunk of my hair and ninja chopped it in one fell swoop.
As nervous as I was, he did an amazing job and my fringe turned out better than I hoped for. It'll be fun trying to play with different looks now:)

A real picture of me freaking out. I am so dramatic.

p.s: Victoria's Secret Fashion Show on tonight at 10pm ET! I'll be in class, but feel free to twitter me with updates on the show and if 3,000 crunches per day is enough to get abs like that. Thank you.

weekend recap

1. I had to stop and take pictures of this. There was something so beautiful about these minature maple leaves.
2. Off the runway of the Romeo+Juliet fashion show. The print on this dress was gorgeous. Post on the show will follow soon:)
3. Seafood Japchae at Chung Dam Anh on Robson. I love the Korean style glass noodles, but this restaurant's version had me at sizzle.
4. Me and some of my volleyball teammates celebrating our victory at Chung Dam Anh. So odd that I've never been to this place before and then end up there two nights in a row. This was what was left of our soju/sake/beer diet before we left to belt out some tunes at a karaoke bar.
5. Playing in a high caliber tournament the morning after the karaoke bar :/
6. McDonalds' promo. My first, and probably last free coffee from there. It tasted like pooh.
7. Winding down with the girls and a delicious home cooked meal after a busy weekend. One of our girlfriends cooked us roasted chicken.
8. Capping the weekend off with a tablespoon of Breyers' Vanilla ice cream. Any more and my stomach would've hated me.

xoxo, amy.

just as long as your love don't change

How I wish I took a picture of the mini blizzard we had here in Vancouver a couple of days ago. I gave up on trying to take pictures outdoors and instead, resorted to an underground parkade. It's funny; as soon as a singular snowflake comes down, I (among some) freak out and wonder: should I call work and say it's too crazy out there and that I can't make it in? Should I just skip school? Should I cancel everything that has to do with walking out the front door? Yes, you laugh but the knee-slapper part is your employer, professor, and friends usually all understand. We are so weak, so weak ;)

This is what I wore out to a girlfriend's dinner yesterday. She just came back from a long trip to Asia. We celebrated her homecoming with yogurt soju, delicious Korean food, and hilarious topics of conversation.  In moments like that, I wish I had video clips and not just pictures.
